Perth is the capital of Western Australia. It has some of the world's most beautiful beaches - but also, a lot of geeks like us who rarely see them ;)

December is summer and it should be very warm and dry, with the average minimum temp around 16 degrees Celsius and maximum about 27 degrees. The city itself lies on the bank of the Swan River, and is currently undergoing a resources-driven boom with urban renewal and large infrastructure developments being undertaken throughout the city. See videos at Last Pixel.

You can see a lot of photos taken in and around Perth by our friends at the Photographers in Perth Flickr Group which should give you a flavour of this gorgeous city.

In Perth in summer, the sun sets over the ocean at about 8.45pm.

Some aspects of this project are on hold, apparently due to the labour shortage. We need more skilled people to move here!

Happily, a large reserve of natural bushland known as Kings Park was preserved right next to the city. It's a popular tourist lookout by day and night, with this magnificant view of Perth city and the Swan River.

Speaking of flavour, Perth has a huge number of restaurants - one of the highest per-capita in the world. Our multicultural population means that you're always spoiled for choice when it comes to dining, too. See EatingWA for reviews.

There are also great places to stay, see Trip Advisor for choices of accommodation with reviews by other travellers.

Closer to the Festival, we will add on links to some of our favourite places in Perth - restaurants, tourist attractions etc, as well as recommended hotels and such. We also recommend that you look up the community groups involved in the Festival, and get in touch with those who most share your interests. We Aussies are a friendly bunch, and I'm sure we can find you some new friends here.
